Small Conservancy. Minimum Data. No Tricks.

The Mission Bay Park Conservancy is a small, volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit (tax-exempt status pending). We collect the minimum information needed to run an Ideas Board, send updates to people who ask for them, and process donations. We don't sell anything to anyone, we don't run advertising, and we don't track you across the internet.

Want your info removed? Email privacy@missionbaypark.org and we'll delete it within 30 days. You don't have to explain why.

Only What We Need.

Four data streams flow through the Conservancy: idea submissions, support votes, interest signups, and donation receipts. Here's exactly what happens with each.

01

Ideas Board

On the Engage page, name, email, and neighborhood are optional. Name attributes the idea on the public board only if you check "publish publicly." Email is used only to follow up on your idea as it moves through review. Leave these blank to stay anonymous.

02

Support Votes

When you click the heart on an idea, we record an anonymous randomly-generated client ID so the same browser can't double-vote. This ID is not linked to your name or email and is not used for any other purpose.

03

Interest Signups

When you subscribe to updates, we store your email, optional name, and chosen topic areas. We only send updates in those categories. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.

04

Donations

Payment processing is handled by our payment provider. We receive name, email, amount, and recognition preferences so we can issue a tax receipt and (with permission) recognize you on the donor wall. We never store full card numbers.

Website analytics. We use lightweight, privacy-respecting server-side analytics to count page views and see which pages are useful. No Google Analytics, no third-party tracking cookies, no cross-site fingerprinting.

A Short List, And It's Short On Purpose.

Inside the Conservancy, only Stewardship Committee members processing Ideas Board submissions can see the full details of non-public ideas. Outside the Conservancy:

  • Our database host (Supabase) and email sender (Resend) process your information on our behalf under their own privacy policies, which you can review at supabase.com/privacy and resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
  • San Diego Parks & Recreation and other partner agencies may see aggregated Ideas Board results (trends, category counts, locations) when we advocate for improvements, but we never share individual submitter contact information with them without your explicit permission.
  • Nobody else. We don't sell, rent, trade, or otherwise disclose your information for commercial purposes.

How Long We Keep It.

  • Public ideas stay on the Ideas Board permanently as part of the Conservancy's public record, unless you ask us to remove yours.
  • Private ideas (submitted with the "publish publicly" box unchecked) are kept only while the committee is actively processing them, then archived or deleted after the status reaches completed or deferred.
  • Interest signup lists are kept until you unsubscribe.
  • Donation records are kept for at least seven years to comply with IRS recordkeeping requirements for 501(c)(3) organizations.

What You Can Ask Us To Do.

Regardless of where you live, you can ask us to do any of the following:

01

See It

Request a full copy of what information we have about you.

02

Correct It

Fix anything that's wrong or out of date.

03

Delete It

Remove all of your information from our systems.

04

Export It

Download your information in a standard machine-readable format.

05

Unsubscribe

Stop all outbound emails immediately, no negotiation.

If you live in California, the EU, the UK, or any other jurisdiction with formal data rights (CCPA, GDPR, etc.), the above is a restatement of your existing rights under those laws, which we honor for everyone regardless of where they live.

Your California Privacy Rights.

Categories of personal information we collect

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA), here are the specific categories we collect and why:

  • Identifiers (name, email address): To attribute your ideas on the public board, send you the email updates you asked for, and issue tax receipts for donations.
  • Internet or other electronic activity (anonymous vote token in localStorage): To prevent duplicate idea votes. This cannot be linked to your identity.
  • Commercial information (donation amount, date, payment method type): To issue tax receipts as required by IRS rules. We never store full card numbers.

We do not sell or share your personal information

The Mission Bay Park Conservancy does not sell your personal information to anyone. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have never done either of these things and do not intend to. Because we don't sell or share, there is nothing to opt out of — but if you'd like confirmation, email privacy@missionbaypark.org and we'll respond in writing.

Global Privacy Control (GPC)

We honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid opt-out of any future sale or sharing of personal information (of which we do none today).

No financial incentives

We do not offer financial incentives, price differences, or service differences based on the personal information you provide.

How We Handle Email.

Every email we send complies with the CAN-SPAM Act and California Business & Professions Code §17529.5:

  • Every email identifies the Mission Bay Park Conservancy as the sender and includes our physical mailing address.
  • Every email contains a working one-click unsubscribe link that we honor within 10 business days (usually within hours).
  • We never use deceptive subject lines or header information.
  • We only email you about the categories you selected when you signed up. If we want to use your email for a new purpose (for instance, an annual fundraising appeal), we will ask first.
  • We never sell, rent, or trade our email list.

Browser Storage, Not Tracking.

Cookies

We don't set any tracking cookies. The Ideas Board uses your browser's localStorage to remember two things: a random client identifier (so you can't vote twice on the same idea) and which ideas you've already supported. Clear them anytime from your browser's settings.

Children

The Ideas Board is open to anyone who wants to share an idea for Mission Bay Park, and we welcome ideas from young people. If you are under 13, please get a parent or guardian to help you submit. We don't knowingly collect more information than is needed to acknowledge a submission.

Changes to this policy

When we make material changes we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and, for anyone on our interest list, send a short notice describing what changed.

Questions Or Requests?

Email privacy@missionbaypark.org for data requests, corrections, or anything you'd like to ask about this policy. We respond to every message.
